Fire damages Meadville apartment building

Officials are investigating a Thursday afternoon fire at a West Mead Township apartment building.  Firefighters from a handful of departments battled the blaze at just after 11:00 a.m. on Lamont Drive near Williamson Street.  West Mead #1 Rescue Chief Jayme Corey says the fire started in an upstairs bedroom.

“But how it started, and what exactly happened is under investigation right now.”

Corey says no one was hurt:

“No injuries… we had one that was assessed for a possible smoke inhalation, but he refused treatment with the ambulance service, and he’s fine.”

Corey says one upstairs apartment was completely burned:

“Otherwise, there’s just light to moderate smoke and water damage.”

Corey said about 30 people live in the building.
