“Google Doodle” recognizes Meadville zipper pioneer
Anybody who’s visited Google today will notice a huge Zipper across the screen. Today’s Google Doodle is in honor of the birthday of Gideon Sundback, a man recognized locally and elsewhere for revolutionizing the way the world puts on its pants.
The Swedish-American inventor would be celebrating his 132nd birthday today. Sundback was a key player in the development of the modern zipper, while working for a company that would eventually become the Meadville-based Talon Corporation, that put Crawford County on the map.
And in case anybody’s interested, you can visit Sundback’s grave. It’s is just down the road… in Meadville’s Greendale Cemetary.
