Anyone hear a loud ‘boom’?
By ROB PRICE, editor
Has anyone figured out what that loud boom was Sunday night in Elk County?
Joseph Bell, editor of the Ridgeway Record, has reported several county residents placed phone calls to police and emergency services Sunday to report what sounded like an explosion. in the Johnsonburg-Ridgeway-Wilcox areas at about 10:30 p.m.
The easiest explanation may attribute the boom to some sort of drilling operations in the Marcellus Shale, although Bell sounds somewhat skeptical of that interpretation on his blog site. “When anything goes wrong in the area lately, most folks seemingly are quick to blame it on Marcellus Shale drilling,” he writes.
Another explanation: a military aircraft breaking the sound barrier and creating a sonic boom. Frankly, though, it seems odd to Pa Live that military jets would be fooling around late at night with speeds in excess of Mach 1.
We’ll keep nosing around with this one.
